Ayni

Reciprocity for a more beautiful world

Ayni · pronounced eye-nee

Definition

Ayni is an ancient Andean principle of sacred reciprocity.

It is the understanding that we are all interconnected, and that life flourishes through mutual giving and receiving — with people, with the land, and with all of creation.

Ayni is not a transaction, but a living relationship. It is the commitment to support one another, to share what we have, to receive with gratitude, and to contribute to the well-being of the whole.

Through Ayni, we recognize that when one thrives, we all thrive.

“Today for you,
tomorrow for me,
always for all.”

How we practise it

People · Land · Community

01

People

We support one another and receive with gratitude. Every family we work with is a partner, not a recipient.

02

Land

Reciprocity extends to the valley itself — the soil, the water and the growing seasons that hold everything here.

03

Community

We contribute to the well-being of the whole, so that what is given moves onward rather than back.
